Description

SS-31 10mg from Evolve Peptides is 10mg of SS-31 in a sealed glass vial. SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide. It’s intended for lab research only.

SS-31 at a glance

SS-31, also called elamipretide, is a four-amino-acid peptide: D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2. It alternates positive charges with aromatic rings, a design that lets it slip through cell membranes and collect in mitochondria.

Once there, it binds cardiolipin, a fat that’s found almost only in the inner mitochondrial membrane and that holds the energy-making machinery in place.

How SS-31 acts in the lab

Cardiolipin holds together the protein complexes that make ATP in mitochondria. When it’s oxidized, those complexes work less well and leak more free radicals.

SS-31 binds cardiolipin and protects it, which in lab studies kept the electron transport chain working more efficiently and cut oxidative damage. It doesn’t depend on the membrane voltage to get into mitochondria, which sets it apart from other targeted antioxidants.

SS-31 research

Hazel Szeto and Peter Schiller designed it in the early 2000s; SS stands for Szeto-Schiller. Stealth BioTherapeutics took it into clinical trials for mitochondrial diseases, including primary mitochondrial myopathy and Barth syndrome.

It’s one of the few mitochondria-targeted peptides with real human trial data. This vial is research material, not the clinical product.

The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search for SS-31 studies to start from.

How to reconstitute SS-31 10mg

Here’s the math for 10mg of peptide:

  • 1ml of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/ml
  • 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/ml
  • 3ml of bacteriostatic water gives 3.33mg/ml

Choose the volume that suits your measurements. Mark the vial with the concentration and date so nobody has to guess later.

Bacteriostatic water is the standard choice. Add it slowly so it runs down the side of the vial, then swirl or roll until everything dissolves. Shaking can damage the peptide, so skip it.

Storage and shelf life

Store sealed vials in the fridge (2 to 8°C) or freezer (-20°C), away from light. Mixed solution goes back in the fridge and should be used within about 28 days.

SS-31 purity and lab testing

The product photos for SS-31 10mg include:

  • A certificate of analysis with identity, measured quantity and HPLC purity. The Chromate reports also cover sterility and heavy metals.
  • An endotoxin report from a kinetic LAL assay.

SS-31 sizes compared

  • SS-31 10mg (this page): 10mg for $60.00, about $6.00 per mg
  • SS-31 50mg: 50mg for $169.90, about $3.40 per mg

SS-31 10mg is the smallest option. It’s the one to start with for a pilot run or when you’re testing a new protocol.

SS-31 10mg FAQ

How much is in the SS-31 10mg vial?

10mg of lyophilized powder. The amount is printed on the label.

Which size should I buy?

Pick by how much you’ll use. Bigger vials cost less per milligram, smaller ones mean less sits open in the fridge. The size comparison above lists every SS-31 option.

What do I mix SS-31 10mg with?

Sterile bacteriostatic water. The reconstitution section above shows the concentration for each volume.

How should I store it?

Sealed vials go in the fridge, or the freezer for long-term storage. Once mixed, refrigerate and use within about 28 days.

Can SS-31 be used in people or animals?

No. It’s sold for laboratory research only and isn’t approved for human or veterinary use.
