Description
Hospira bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9mg/ml) as a preservative, made by the pharmaceutical company Hospira and supplied in a 30ml multi-dose vial. It’s what most labs use to reconstitute freeze-dried peptides, and Evolve Peptides keeps it in stock alongside every vial we sell.
What is bacteriostatic water?
It’s sterile, non-pyrogenic water with a small amount of benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol stops bacteria from growing, which is what lets you go back into the same vial several times. Plain sterile water doesn’t have that, so it’s meant for a single draw.
Once you’ve punctured the stopper, a vial of bacteriostatic water is good for up to 28 days.
Hospira bacteriostatic water specifications
- Contents: 30ml sterile bacteriostatic water (Hospira)
- Preservative: 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9mg/ml)
- Container: multi-dose vial with rubber stopper
- Use after opening: up to 28 days
- SKU: EVP-BAC-HOSP-30

How much Hospira bacteriostatic water do you need?
Most peptide vials take 1 to 3ml of water each. A 30ml vial covers a lot of reconstitutions, so it’s the better buy if you mix often or work with several peptides at once. Just remember the 28-day limit after opening.
Bacteriostatic water sizes compared
- Bacteriostatic Water 3ml: 3ml for $10.90
- Bacteriostatic Water 10ml: 10ml for $15.90
- Bacteriostatic Water 30ml: 30ml for $19.90
- Hospira Bacteriostatic Water 30ml (this page): 30ml for $34.90
The 3ml size suits a single peptide. The 10ml is the everyday choice. The 30ml options cost the least per ml. This one is the Hospira-made version, if you prefer a pharmaceutical brand.
Using Hospira bacteriostatic water to reconstitute peptides
Wipe both stoppers with an alcohol swab. Draw the water you need, then let it run slowly down the inside of the peptide vial instead of spraying it onto the powder. Roll or swirl gently until it’s clear. Don’t shake.
Not sure how much to add? Every peptide page on our site has a reconstitution section with the concentration for each volume. Popular vials to pair with it are BPC-157 5mg, GLP-1 S 10mg and NAD+ 500mg.
Why benzyl alcohol?
Benzyl alcohol at 0.9% is enough to stop bacteria growing in the vial between uses, but low enough that it doesn’t affect most peptides. That’s why it became the standard for reconstitution. The official labels for bacteriostatic water, with the full ingredient list, are on DailyMed, the NIH’s drug label database.
A few peptides don’t dissolve well in it. IGF-1 LR3 1mg is the usual example, and many labs reconstitute it in a dilute acetic acid solution instead. For almost everything else in our range, bacteriostatic water is the right choice.
Check the vial before each use
The water should be completely clear with nothing floating in it. If it looks cloudy, has particles, or the stopper is damaged, don’t use it. Also check the date you wrote on the label the first time you opened it.
Storing bacteriostatic water
Keep unopened vials at room temperature, out of direct light. After opening, keep it clean, write the date on the label, and throw it out after 28 days.
Hospira bacteriostatic water FAQ
Is it the same as sterile water?
No. Sterile water has no preservative and is for a single use. Bacteriostatic water has 0.9% benzyl alcohol, so the vial can be used more than once over 28 days.
How long does it last once opened?
Up to 28 days. Mark the date when you first puncture the stopper.
Which peptides can I reconstitute with Hospira bacteriostatic water?
Most lyophilized peptides, including everything in our research peptides range.
Is it for injection into people?
No. We sell it for laboratory research use only.
